spinning-update

Come join us and spin for SASSY at CycleBar Evanston!

The goal of Spinning for SASSY is to support our organizational mission of raising money for the SASSY Scholarship and to help fund and support other upcoming SASSY events.

We are asking each spinner to set a goal and raise enough money in order to reach that goal before February 11. Ask people to donate per minute ($1/minute=$50!) or pledge in lump sums. SASSY will receive 100% of the donations. On the day of the event, we will all gather at CycleBar Evanston and spin for those dollars! The spinning session will last 50 minutes. Novices are welcome, so don’t be nervous if you’ve never taken a spinning class before. This is for fun and fundraising, not competition.

CycleBar will provide everything we need for a fun event: shoes, water bottles, water, hair ties, and more. You just need to wear comfortable clothes and be ready for fun!

Sign up at this link here: Spinning for SASSY Registration

Once you have signed up, you will be emailed a link to CycleBar’s registration page.

Our suggested giving levels are:
Raven: $25
Susie: $50
Stinger: $75
Patron Saint: $150

We will also have a $10 option for anyone who would like to donate but does not want to ride.

Any questions? Please feel free to contact us at sassyscholasticans@gmail.com

Hibernation is over!

Well, it’s been pretty quiet on the SASSY front.  I think we’ve all been feeling the effects of this terrible winter.  But fear not, spring is on the way!

And with spring time comes another chance for girls who attend single-gender high schools in Chicago to apply for the SASSY Scholarship!

Stay tuned for more details.  Applications are due April 1!

The First Ever SASSY Scholarship!

Standard

Dear friends and supporters of SASSY, it is thanks to you that we have raised enough money to help establish our first ever SASSY Scholarship fund!  We just have one more favor to ask.  Can you please help us get the word out to students in need! Our scholarship money is available to any student attending an all-girls high school in the Chicagoland area.  Students can apply for any amount, up to $500.

These grants are intended to help students with all the “extras” we know expand and grow what happens in the classroom.   We have come up with a list of expenses that we could help defray – field trip costs, activity/athletic/retreat fees, book bills, uniform invoices, program (such as International Baccalaureate) or ACT fees – but we are open to hearing about others as well.  In order to apply a student needs to:

– complete the application.

– procure a letter of recommendation from a faculty or staff member, written on official school letterhead, which verifies her attendance and comments on her character.

If a student’s application is accepted, SASSY (under the auspices of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago) will write the school a check to be applied for whatever the student has requested funds.

If you know of a student in need, or an educator who works in an all-girls institution, please email them the link to our blog! Attached to this post are links to the application, as well as more information for both administrators and students.

Thank you for your continued support as we spread the SASSY spirit!

Get Ready for Virtual Growl!

growl

The SASSY team is hard at work planning our first ever Virtual Growl!

In a few short months, on November 7 and 8, we will be asking Scholasticans around the globe to participate in a Virtual Growl together.  Like we did for so many years at SSA, we will use this Growl to raise awareness of world hunger issues and to help raise money for those less fortunate than us.

If you are in the Chicagoland area, we will be organizing a day of service on November 8, followed by a meal together to break our fast.

Interested in joining? Join our Facebook group here and stay tuned to the SASSY blog for more details.

We wanted to invite everyone to yet another great event! This one is far more casual. We just want to see everyone, catch up and of course eat and drink a little too! Temperance Beer Company is brand new and located in Evanston. The creator/founder is an Evanston local with a great family. The main brew master has worked places like Goose Island and makes fantastic beer. The head bartender, Ben, is a wonderfully nice friend who has offered SASSY a great deal!

The event is on June 18th from 5-9pm. Temperance has a fantastic patio, lots of parking, and a shuffle board table. For $40 you can get 3 craft beers, a brewery tour and food. For $25 you can get 2 craft beers, a brewery tour and food. These are pre-event prices. The day of prices will go up $5.

However, if you are one of the first 20 to RSVP to sassyscholasticans@gmail.com stating you will be in attendance (and actually show!) you will be entered into a raffle to win a gift card and be on the list to pay the day of price when you arrive to the event.

Checks (made out to St. Scholastica) can of course be mailed in with note stating your attendance for the Temperance Beer Co. Event and the number attending.  Please mail checks to SASSY c/o St. Scholastica Monastery, 7430 N. Ridge Boulevard
Chicago, Illinois 60645

Or you can pay online by following these instructions:
2) Please put SASSY in the memo area
3) Still RSVP to this email account to let us know that you payed via Pay Pal and so we can get you on the RSVP list 🙂

Rehash of the Dash!

Standard

This post comes later than planned, but we just wanted to share the awesome success of SASSY Dash II: We’re bringing SASSY back!

It was a success! 67 people participated in the Dash, including 55 people who ran/walked and 12 volunteers.  In total we raised $3545!!!!!

That is a HUGE success! We are now in the process of deciding how we want to distribute those funds so that more women can find success in single sex education.  But while we’re hard at work figuring that out, you should take a look at the photos from the race.  Photography compliments of Jenn Jacobs and Margaret Pajakowski!
